December Lectionary
December 4 Collect: Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. December 11 Collect: Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. December 18 Collect: Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. December 24 Collect: O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayer Ministry - An Advent Invitationby Megan Bartlett Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical year. It is a season that invites us to slow down, to practice waiting with hope, peace, joy, and love in our hearts as we anticipate the birth of Jesus, just as Mary and Joseph did all those years ago. It is a kind of beginning that stands in complete contrast to the parties and fireworks we typically associate with the start of a new calendar year. And, I find Advent's invitation to stillness a welcome one, in the midst of all the preparing I am doing for Christmas and New Year. This month, I invite you to engage in some quieter prayer practices. Perhaps you choose to spend a few moments a day in stillness, just noticing what you see or hear. Maybe you close your eyes and practice following your breath as it flows in and out, a reminder of God's Spirit (in Greek, "pneuma", or "breath") with us. Or maybe you pause to read the excerpt from the Gloria Dei Advent Calendar booklet that is available at the back of the church. The Episcopal Church also has an Advent Calendar online at https://www.episcopalchurch.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/04/Advent-2022-Calendar-English.pdf Whatever your prayer practice this season, may it incorporate stillness, rest, and waiting with the hopeful expectation of Emmanuel, God With Us. Peace, Megan Bartlett |

Rector Search Updateby Cathy Ufheil The opening for a full-time rector is being advertised on both the DIOPA website as well as our own Gloria Dei website. These ads have gotten a lot of attention….several hundred people have seen them. However, since we are approaching Advent, we are not anticipating any real response until after the first of the new year. Most rectors who are currently serving parishes but are contemplating a move in the future will not leave their congregation during this holy season but will wait until the beginning of next year to start their search. Please keep praying that God will touch the heart of the best candidate for our new rector and direct their footsteps to Gloria Dei! We will continue to keep you posted! |
