Dr. Christopher MicklewrightOur New Rector. Chris Micklewright grew up moving around the country as the oldest child in a military family, but involvement in Christian community and the love of Jesus Christ were constants of his early life. After attending Eastern University, Chris and his wife were married and joined the Church of the Good Samaritan, where they fell in love with the Episcopal liturgy and tradition. Over 14 years at Good Sam, Chris served as a youth leader, confirmation teacher, vestry member, and small group leader. Chris and Heather have been blessed with three beautiful sons, Corin (11), Elias (9), and Desmond (6). In down time, Chris enjoys reading, hiking and biking, home-improvement projects, and playing board games with family and friends. The Micklewright family also took an epic road trip in the summer of 2022, visiting more than 15 national park sites between Virginia and Montana. Professionally, Chris holds a PhD in mathematics from Bryn Mawr College, and he taught at DeSales University, Eastern University, and Penn State before being called to ordained ministry (though he is still deeply interested in the connections between mathematical philosophy and Christian theology). He loves to talk about theology and how it relates to our ordinary lives, and he particularly values the Episcopal Church’s embrace of love and mystery and beauty. Chris recently graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary, where he was blessed by serving as a seminarian at St. James' Episcopal Church at Mt. Vernon. The whole Micklewright family is excited to return to the Diocese of Pennsylvania and join the Gloria Dei family. |

Walking Tour of Philadelphia’s Headhouse SquareSaturday, June 3, 2023 at 1:00pm Rescheduled from April 29th due to rain! Join the Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Preservation Corporation on Saturday, June 3, for a historical walking tour of Philadelphia’s Headhouse Square, led by researcher and writer Michael Schreiber. This area of South Second Street, became a central marketplace in the 1740s, serving the fast-growing area around Society Hill. In subsequent years, a colorful assortment of men and women could be seen within the market shambles — farmers from the “Neck,” French and Haitian pastry cooks, Irish revolutionaries, gentlemen merchants, foreign diplomats, and tavern brawlers and thieves. Schreiber will describe many of these characters and their adventures. Tour participants will meet at the plaza at 2nd and Lombard at 1 p.m. (If it is raining, we will meet under the Shambles on 2nd Street, between Lombard and Pine). The tour should take under two hours. The tour will be limited to 30 people; if more apply, the organizers will consider repeating the event on a date to be determined. Rain or Shine. Tickets are $15 each. For more infomation visit: https://preserveoldswedes.org/event/walking-tour-of-philadelphias-headhouse-square-3/

Walking the Labyrinth
The labyrinth is a geometric pattern, an ancient symbol that life is a journey. It has been used by spiritual seekers for centuries as a means of reflecting on one’s journey through life and the presence of the Divine in one’s life. Megan Bartlett would like to walk a local labyrinth and invites you to join her. If interested, contact Megan (megan77777@yahoo.com) so we can find a date that works for everyone, most likely a Saturday or Sunday in July. |

June Lectionary
June 4 - Trinity Sunday Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. June 11 - Second Sunday after Pentecost Collect: O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. June 18 - Third Sunday after Pentecost Collect: Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. June 25 - Fourth Sunday after Pentecost Collect: O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
