 hurch to clean the gravestones of deceased members and signage that acknow
 ledges the history of this site.\nThe occasion: Gravestone and Historic Ma
 rker Community Service Day.\nLocation: The church and graveyard are at 91
 6 S. Swanson Street\, Philadelphia\, PA 19147 (Christian Street and Columb
 us Blvd.).\nThe event: It’s an opportunity to do something nice to pres
 erve the history of this site and for people who came before you to Americ
 a.\nEnjoy results in just 10 minutes\nYou’ll have fun\, learn something 
 new and meet some interesting people. And you’ll see amazing results qui
 ckly. \nFirst\, you’ll see how to clean graves and markers in a few eas
 y steps. (Historic Gloria Dei Preservation Corporation provides all suppli
 es.)\nHeritage Conservation Collective will demonstrate how to do both and
  answer any questions.\nThen you’ll get a chance to do it yourself … u
 nder guidance. You just spray\, wait 10 minutes\, then gently clean the gr
 avestone with a soft brush. For markers\, you’ll simply use soapy water 
 and a non-metal brush to clean them.\nYou’ll see the results of your wor
 k very quickly.\nSuggestions: wear old clothes and bring a kneeling pad.\
 nAbout National Historic Marker Weekend\nLaunched as a grassroots celebrat
 ion by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation\, a philanthropic organization ba
 sed in Syracuse\, N.Y.\, National Historic Marker Weekend brings people to
 gether to maintain local markers by cleaning them and providing an opportu
 nity to celebrate and preserve history.\nThis fun and family-friendly cele
 bration is held on the last weekend of every April. Individuals\, as well 
 as groups of all sizes\, are welcome to volunteer\, including families and
  friends\, civic organizations\, schools and young groups\, to name a few.
