This age group meets between services from 10:30-11:30. Our Sunday School classes are scheduled to end halfway through the 11 oclock service. Children will be escorted to the church around 11:30 to share in the peace and communion. Please see our calendar for special schedules.
Our teaching philosophy is child-centered and discussion-based. Our conversations reflect the days readings and gospels messages and how we can put them into practice in our daily lives. Additionally, instruction includes preparation for Confirmation classes.
The curriculum we use in the classroom comes from Living the Good News. This provides us with an up-to-date Christian education based on the ancient cycle of Bible lectionary readings. We also use "The Sunday Papers in church for the children. These materials for Christian Education Liturgy are written by Gretchen Wolff Pritchard.
The Sunday School is involved in several fundraising activities and performances. Past events have included: Reenacting bible stories, learning and performing the Doxology in Sign Language, Children's Sabbath, Service, Halloween Party, Bake Sales, Christmas Eve performance, Philadelphia AIDS Walk, "Souper" Bowl Sunday, March Madness/Awesome April activities, Easter Egg Hunt, Ice Skating, Three Kings Celebration, and a special day with St. Barnabas, a shelter for women and children and a variety of community outreach activities.
Our fundraising activities support organizations that the children choose, for example the Ronald McDonald House, Project H.O.M.E., Heifer International, St. Josephs Soup Kitchen, Seamans Church Institute, and our sister church in Guatemala.
